Yelling Cackling Goose

Psalm 91:
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

Cackling Goose

“I am NOT little and cute!”

Cackling Geese seem to be fairly common right now. They will be found in Iowa during migration and winter.  A Cackling Goose looks basically just like a mini-Canada Goose. About the size of a Mallard. One person writes within his observation on the bird list, “They are just so little and cute!”  LBE (Little Birding Expert) describes their call as a whiney honk.  We were blessed to see and hear one right above us as it was trying to locate its friends.

These geese and other birds were seen at the Dale Maffitt Reservoir in the extreme southeastern portion of Dallas County.

I just want you to know how much I appreciate you postings…I read every one of them. Even though I have been a birder for years, I always seem to pick up some new information from them. I love how you try to tie scripture in with the subject matter. We have been noticing more Cackling Geese showing up in Michigan (not many, but some). Keep up the excellent work!

    • I am sorry if you got that notification for my testing comment. I am realizing the threading of comments are not acting as they should. An employee of WordPress is looking into the issue.

I have to echo Lee’s sentiments; I enjoy the scriptures you tie into each post, and learning about the wildlife you encounter and about your neck of the woods.

They do look cute and little, so I bet it seems strange to hear such a noise come out from such a beautiful creature. :)

    • Thank you for the nice comment. I enjoy writing about what we learn and observe.

We saw a lot of geese again today. It is amazing there is any open water when the temps dipper to -6 last night.
