Do not let your life be shaped by what happens to you, but let your life be shaped by work of the Holy Spirit.
~~paraphrase of a statement by Menno Simons
If one belongs to Christ, how can they laugh at the world's humor?
I love the Canada geese!
I wish more people did.
I’ve been tempted to strew corn all over the pasture in hopes of attracting them, but then it would attract all sorts of other things, I suppose. We don’t mind deer, but I’ve heard people talk about the destruction of their gardens. Thus far, they’ve walked or run past our place, but never stopped. With the battle of bugs, rabbits, and drought with our garden last year, I am not eager to start a new battle. I was almost in tears. One of the children told me something ate our kohlrabi we left in the garden for seed. It’s a biannual, so needed that second year to flower. :’(
Bummer. Nature has its good and bad sides. Mom always figured the rabbits and deer and bugs were going to get some, so we just planted BIG. Could you put wire mesh around plants. They do that up in the Rocky Mt. foothills to protect the trees from the deer.
Yes, we can put mesh around the plants and we have in the past. I just never thought of protecting from winter critters, so in a way it was my fault. We will for sure remember for next time as we really like kohlrabi and it was so easy to start from seed.
You will have healthy critters. The up side.
Yeah, and healthy for the raptors that eat the healthy critters. :/ We saw our Great Horned Owl perched on the Kestrel box last week. I was going in and out the front door dealing with the bird retreat and it didn’t seem phased at all. We got some blurry, silhouette (One of these days, I WILL remember that “h”) pictures, but you can see it’s a Great Horned.
Not that I have one but I was just wondering if you ever got that photo you wanted of the Stellar Jay? Until you mentioned it I had never heard of it and looked it up to see what it looked like. The reason it came it mind is that when I put my ‘feathered friends’ picture up and one of the Blue Jay …one of the comments I got was that they only got the ‘Stellar Jay’ where they lived and not the Blue Jay we do…Diane
My youngest’s favorite is a Scrub Jay, but no, no one sent me any, so I found something that was public domain. The site had notebooks on sale until today, so I have it ordered already.
Oh Scrub Jay…that’s different…at least you’re getting it…I thought it was Stellar?? maybe someone else said that…my little gray cells…acting up again..
Oh did you see on my blog site…I feel so clever ..I added pictures of some birds on it on right sidebar….didn’t mean to sound like I was bragging..It’s just that I found out about moving ‘awards’ to a ‘page’ and then I thought what could I put on the side and I researched widgets. and learned how to do it…Diane
I just looked, it is nice.
I think it is fun when I figure out new things on the blog and change it around a little. That’s not bragging. And I think it helps us to keep our brains from going stagnant. My children are always rearranging furniture, inside of cabinets, so I am always having to hunt for stuff. I figure it’s good for me.
