1 Corinthians 13:
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Baltimore Oriole

This is the male, looking like he is going through a bit of a molt. Normally the wings do not have this much white. We’ve been blessed to see these birds as late in the year as we have. Even today (21 August) I saw a young one hanging around in our tree. They are no longer coming to the orange halves filled with jelly, but must be finding some tasty bugs.
Maryland is the only state with this bird. I smile now. As I was growing up and even later, I heard of a sporting team (I just had to search to remember what type of sport. I have never really followed any sporting event or team.) with the name Baltimore Orioles. What in the world was an Oriole? That sounded funny. True, I had no idea it was a bird. It was only after we started looking through field guides that I learned what one was.
About the team, it looks like their latest logo is a correct representation of the bird. Until 2008, they had it with a yellow bill. I think their mascot still needs a little help, but I suppose if you try making a costume for a human to entertain the masses in, there needs to be some compromise.

Thanks for the scripture, picture and information! That’s interesting to know. About the logo, I can see what you mean. But at least they corrected the bill color.
I had to smile when you said ‘it was some sort of sporting event’…living in a family that does watch hockey, football and of course baseball’s ‘Baltimore Orioles’…..but the beautiful bird is their inspiration for their name…Diane
