Don’t Blink!

Or you may miss something pretty exciting.

I have been trying for awhile to get a picture to show why a Red-bellied Woodpecker is called a Red-bellied Woodpecker.  I guess I just needed to wait for another in the household to do it.  Quite a look she gave him, too.

Birds have three eyelids.  The top one is for blinking, the bottom one when they sleep and the third is called a “nictating membrane” used for cleaning and protection.  It is often translucent.  Here’s an interesting fact, birds are the only creature to close their eyes in death.

1 John:

1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;

2(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

3That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
